Windshield time on the Front Range
Wednesday the 19th was a crazy day. I had to get some material to a job site in Pueblo, the catch is that the material was at the shop in Loveland. Looking at a map that is basically the entire front range. After a doctors appointment I left for the shop at about 11:00. By the time I got home, I had gone from Aurora to Loveland to Pueblo and back....that is 26 gallons of diesel, 344 miles, and 9 hours, and I never left the Front Range! Those kind of numbers should put me in Albuquerque, New Mexico (not that I would rather be there). Just another day in the truck. At least the picture I hang in the office changes every day.
A tall order
For those who are unsure exactly what I do for work...here is a glimpse. I just finished a projcet where I was installing an operable partition (it is a wall that moves along a structured track system in the ceiling), in Lafeyette, CO. At New Life Church, they had done an addition of an auditorium. On the stage we installed a track system that would allow a panel (section of wall) to be placed anywhere on the stage to create different confugurations of backdrops for specific performances. Well, these panels were specified to be 25' tall. If that sounds tall to you...it is!! We had almost 300' feet of track and only 15 panels which equates to about 60 feet of wall. It took two fork lifts, a scissor lift, a panel stander (specific attachment for a fork lift used to lift panels into place), and 7 men. It took us about 7 hours to get them all installed. The job went well and we had very little damage (it is kind of expected with this size panel). Here is a picture of the panels as they come off the truck in racks of 5.

I fought the law....and the law won.
So, sooner or later...putting your foot 'into' the truck gets you in trouble. This is the case now. I was driving only marginally faster than the posted speed limit and the officer who pulled me over was not impressed with my driving skills. The long and short of it is a $163 ticket...85 on a 70 is not a good idea. Still, point A to point B should be done the fastest possible.

The grand introduction
Well, here goes...I am in the construction industry and have been since 1997. I enjoy it a lot. I work in a very specialized field...operable walls, fire doors and other weird stuff. Being as specialized as I am, there are few who can do the things I do...hence, the reason I do such a great deal of travel. since 2001 when I started my own business over two different trucks i have logged approximately 330,000 miles...that is some serious windshield time.
I figure I see some places that most never will. So I decided to share (in no grand way) the places I go....
Last month I spent a week in the thriving metropolis of Bismarck , ND (also visited Williston....). I am glad it was a few weeks ago and not now...seems as though, they got some snow this week.
Today I find myself in Fort Morgan....I have seen more Walmart stores in more Podunk towns than I care to count. Off to the next one!
